DESIGN REQUIREMENTS | DESIGN GUIDELINES

Competitors are asked to think freely and creatively, while at the same time respecting project boundaries and adjacent land uses. Designs should be of an urban in quality, world-class, yet reflecting traditional uses of outdoor space in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam. Most significantly, the three Competition elements - plaza, park, and bridge - must be designed as a unified composition with related and overlapping uses, functional circulation, creating a unified public space design for Thu Thiem

 

Central Plaza


  • The general grade of the Central Plaza is +2.5m at the western end, +5.0m at the Crescent Boulevard, and +2.5m at the eastern end adjacent to the Central Lake.
  • The Central Plaza area is made up of eight (8) distinct open space blocks.
  • The roadways between the blocks must be maintained and accommodated. Underpasses and/or overpasses for these roads are strongly discouraged.
  • One transit station for underground subway must be incorporated into the Central Plaza, with the location determined by the Competitors.
  • Underground parking and other underground uses may be proposed. Competitors should explain the ideas programmatically as well as functionally (access, dimension, etc.).

 

Crescent Park

  • The general grade of the Crescent Park is assumed to be +2.0m along the river and +2.5m at the roadway.
  • The Crescent Park should incorporate active and passive uses. The quantity and type of playfields, courts, and/or other elements are to be determined by the Competitiors.
  • An urban promenade along the rivers edge should be incorporated.
  • A ferry and water taxi stop should be incorported where the Central Plaza meets the Crescent Park. A ferry and water taxi stop will be located on the western bank of the Saigon River (location to be determined by HCMC).
  • The Crescent Park should be able to accommodate thousands during large events and festivals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saigon River Pedestrian Bridge

  • The general grade on either side of the Saigon River where the bridge will begin/end is +2.0m.
  • The bridge is intended for both pedestrians and bicyclists, with overlooks for viewing.
  • The vertical clearance of the bridge from high tide elevation + is 10m.
  • The span of bridge that needs to maintain the vertical clearance is 80m.
  • Structural supports may be located within the Saigon River.
